Just an article on vista and how Microsoft is going about keeping ppl from using pirated software.

one the the article did teach me is that if you want vista and want it cheaper than retail is to get some pirated software and then when Vista detects it and your notified you can buy a real code for $119 bucks. 1/2 the price of retail...

"IP address, but Sievert says none of that can be used to identify individual PC users."

Bullsh*it, of course they can, IP address is defenetly enough to get information about the person that is paying for the connection, which is most likley to be using pirated software. Now if they do this or not is another matter but they still can.

They would have to get a warrant to obtain the subscriber information from the ISP. And to get the warrant, they would have to indicate an individual on the warrant. To have a warrant issued for an individual, they would have to have sufficient evidence to support reasonable cause.

In short, they cannot issue a warrant unless they know the person that is responsible. But they won't know the person that is responsible unless they have the warrant to get the owner/user information of the IP address.

The cart before the horse thing ....

Ah, different in US then, I've had the issue myself before with my name and address being polled from the IP address through the ISP
